How it works
each pays = bill × (1 + tip%) ÷ peopleshown at 15%, 18% and 20%
- bill
- the amount before tip
- tip%
- the tip level, here 15/18/20
- people
- how many are splitting it
This splits the bill evenly. If people ordered very differently, it is fairer to split by what each had, then add the same tip percentage to every share.
Frequently asked questions
How do you split a bill with tip?
Add the tip to the bill, then divide by the number of people. A $141.60 total between four is $35.40 each.
How much is each person on a $120 bill for 4 with 18% tip?
$35.40 each.
Should everyone tip the same percentage?
An even split with one tip percentage is simplest. If orders differ a lot, split by what each person had, then apply the same percentage.
What if we want to round up?
Round each share up to the nearest dollar; the small extra just adds a little to the tip.
